The Long Beach leg of Mike Donovan's Exurbian Quonset Tour at the Polymer_ Studio HQ last Thursday went off with a bang. As the crowd rolled in, tired from a full day's work and eager to start the weekend that's not quite there yet, they were welcomed by the smell of grilling vegan fare from Taco Loco food truck and sizzling bacon wrapped street dogs from the stand next door. Ice cold Towne Park beers started to flow and the weariness of the week begins to fade away.
First up and properly starting the festivities was one of Long Beach's finest J Burd. The crowd was immediately drawn to the stage as the melodies begins to fill the summer evening. Special thanks to J Burd front man Jason Callanan making this event possible!
Performing for the very first time as an acoustic duo, Spirit Mother's Armand Lance on guitar and Sarah Jane Long on violin got out of their comfort zone and dazzled the crowd with their experimental acoustic psychedelic sound.
As the evening commenced, the art installation "99 Bottles" by local Long Beach artist Brice Burtness started to thin out as one by one, the pieces got claimed. 1/99, 19/99, 27/99, 36/99, 72/99.... going one by one. There's still a few available so contact Brice @briceburtness to purchase your favorite number ??/99.
Making the trip to Long Beach for the very first time, Bozmo continued the intimate evening with nostalgic vocals and sultry guitar giving Long Beach a taste of that Northern California sound.
With the audience fully engaged and eager with anticipation, Mike Donovan played songs from his new album Exurbian Quonset and immediately reminded us why we all came out on a Thursday night in the first place. What a treat to hear familiar classics from the Sic Alp days, a trip down memory lane and a sure reminder to always Enjoy Yourself.
